Mashita’s slogan is “It means delicious” and I’m inclined to agree with them. Partly, because it actually does mean delicious in Korean, but mostly because their food is just that. To some, it would seem a little arrogant to just name your restaurant “delicious”. Luckily these guys know how to translate and make mouth-watering dishes, giving them all the credit they need to pull it off.
Like any food truck, their menu is simple and focuses more on quality rather than quantity. It’s filled with Korean inspired dishes with names that you will never pronounce right on your first try. The most popular item is the “handmade Steamed bun” or “Ho pang”. This bun redefines what a means to be a bun. It’s sweet and doughy and it practically melts in your mouth. The buns are filled with your choice of pork, chicken, beef, mushrooms or tofu. The combo lets you get two of these buns with a side or either rice, kimchi or bean sprout for $8.50.

The icing on the cake of this Korean combo however, is the sauce you choose to lather over these sweet buns. You have a choice or classic Soy, the unique Mashita sauce and my personal favorite the spicy “Gochujang”. Like I said, I still can’t pronounce this sauce right, but I don’t need to pronounce it right to want to drizzle it over everything I eat.
The only other dinner option is the lettuce wrap or “Ssam”. It is a healthier gluten-free alternative to the bun that lets you still keep the sauce, meet and sides. You can get four of these wraps for $8. That leaves you a few bucks to ruin your healthy choice completely and buy their signature dessert, “Cinnamon sugar streamed donut holes (with icing)."

This food truck is “Mashita” but can be a little pricy. If you pay with a card you are given the option of a 10-20% tip. I tip every time because these guys deserve it. You most likely will end up paying $9-$12 there but trust me, it’s worth every penny. Although, I am always wishing for a little more food when I eat there.
All in all, the price and amount of food you get seems irrelevant when compared to the sheer joy you experience when eating a “Ho pang” drizzled with your favorite sauce. Mashita is simply one of the best food trucks Harrisonburg has to offer. It’s located on E Market Street near the Sheetz. So, when your near there, stop by Mashita, order your food, and sit back and enjoy as you agree that these buns are unparalleled.
