Normally at Chews and Booze we talk about how to get the most out of your ingredients, how to prepare the most induglent cocktails, or what restaurants you should be checking out. But, with the holidays approaching, we wanted to recognize that not everyone is as lucky to have these options. Food pantries are constantly looking for donations, and the holiday season is an ideal time to give. But what's best? The standard is a can of corn, or the like. But, here are some more ideas to bring to your nearest church food pantry, homeless shelter, or soup kitchen:
- 100% juice drinks, nothing with high fructose corn syrup
- Canned meat (chicken, tuna, etc.)
-Whole grain past & rice
-Oatmeal
-Olive oil
-Peanut butter
-Holiday foods- something you would enjoy!
-Low sugar cereals
-Granola bars
-Canned soup
-Trail mix
-Canned vegetables
-No sugar added canned fruit
-Unsweetened apple sauce
These are just a few ideas to get you thinking about what to donate. More often than not, anything is appreciated. Just make sure it is healthy and not going to expire quickly!
