Jack Brown’s Invades Pale Fire: My Take

It was homecoming weekend at James Madison University. The calm quiet you would usually hear throughout a fall evening was taken over by the distant roar of sports fans and the bustling downtown area. During this monumental weekend, many different local Harrisonburg eateries held special events, but one event in particular caught my eye. By “caught my eye” I, of course, mean I was left in bitter anticipation form the moment I saw this poster.

“Jack Brown’s invades Pale fire”. It just rolls off the tongue. When such a titanic meeting of Harrisonburg “Chews and Booze” takes place, it is our duty to be there. Although, I admit I attended this invasion for a selfish reason; to enjoy great food and get a little tipsy at the same time. Still, we all have a job to do so here is my take.

It was F***ing amazing

and I have three reasons to prove it to you.

CHEWS

Jack Brown’s is the burger king of Harrisonburg. It makes the actual Burger King look like a worthless pretender. Their special Wagyu beef melts in your mouth and they are some of the most creative burger makers I’ve ever seen. Their unique burgers were a perfect combination with Pale Fire’s beer. Try the Elvis if you’re looking to pay homage to “the King’s” favorite burger.

BOOZE

Pale Fire opened last year and I was there from day one. I, along with many millennials, am a huge craft beer fan. Pale fire has an amazing selection of IPAs, pale ale, wheat beers, and stouts. If you can’t decide on one you can get a sampler of most of their selection. I chose enjoyed the Major Tom IPA this time around. I usually don’t care for any fruity taste in my beer. It becomes too sweet in my opinion. Major Tom somehow found a way to make a blend of orange and grapefruit taste fantastic in an IPA. By the way, if you couldn’t tell, beer names at Pale Fire are mostly allusions to hits from legends like David Bowie and modern stars like Mac Demarco (salad days).

Everyting Else

I love just being in Pale Fire. The asthenic is cozy and modern. Shelves filled with literary works and classic vinyl overlook a massive window into the brewery itself. It is simply just a great place to hang out ,...when it is not completely packed. This weekend was different. Pale Fire used its massive courtyard to host this event. There was space, Corn hole matches, and a massive projection of a Rolling Stones’ concert across its walls.

I was told this wasn’t the last time these two brew masters would team up and I personally cant wait. If you coudnt make it out this weekend due to your age or prior "gameday" obligations, you need to be at the next invasion.
