Clementine's Unforgettable Brunch

I have been a loyal bruncher at Billy Jack’s. They have great food, I get mimosas, I always like it.

It’s also very cutthroat. Billy Jack’s opens for brunch at 11 AM, and by 10:45, all the tables are spoken for, and then you’re looking at waiting until those people are finished eating. One morning, I just couldn’t wait, and ventured to a new brunch destination, and was not disappointed.

Clementine is right around the corner from Billy Jack’s, this being the main reason that my boyfriend and I chose it, but I’ve also had dinner there before, and it was delicious- I maintain that they have the BEST dessert I’ve ever had in my life, so I was fairly confident that they must have great brunch as well.

We walked into the restaurant, which is high- ceilinged and covered with local artwork, with a stage in the back left corner for the live bands nights. It feels very modern, but still warm and inviting. However, it was a nice day, so we wanted to sit outside on the patio downstairs, called Ruby’s. This is an extension of the restaurant during the day with the patio, but also gives them another bar at night.

Reading the menu made it very apparent that the brunch items at Clementine would be very fresh and light- I didn’t know brunch could be so good without the grease!

I originally wanted the soufflé of the day, but they were all out- instead, I chose to get the carnitas egg bowl, while my boyfriend got a giant breakfast burrito, and we shared mimosas and honey-ginger buttered toast.

The carnitas egg bowl had fried eggs, pulled pork and barbeque sauce, with what they call a black bean potato hash, which was black beans, baked home fries, diced tomatoes, and corn, with chives all on top. It’s just weird enough to work, and I loved every bite.

The breakfast burrito was gigantic, which is always a good quality in a burrito in my book, and had scrambled eggs, black beans, onion, diced tomato, and corn, cheese, and salsa, with a slightly spicy ancho-chili sauce on top.

The toast was simple but so, so decadent and fancy feeling. It was sliced artisan bread, with house-made homey-ginger butter. I am not usually one to add butter to my food but this was warm and rich and complemented everything else so well.

We also decided to get dessert, a Chocolate Mousse Parfait- I did say they have the best dessert! It was chocolate cake, chocolate mousse and whipped cream all layered together.

I have since been back for brunch, and thoroughly enjoyed trying other entrees- but they always run out of the soufflé. It must be good- there will be a special article on the soufflé once I catch it.
