I would definitely consider myself a master of Pho.

Pho is a type of Vietnamese soup, typically made from beef stock and spices, including rice noodles and with a variety of meats and vegetable options.

Pho is definitely my number one favorite food... which means I make sure to try the local Pho restaurant everywhere I go.

To my knowledge, Vietopia, located on Port Republic, is the only Pho restaurant in Harrisonburg. I brought my high expectations on my Pho journey and hoped for the best in this adorable little Vietnamese restaurant.

Pho is brought out with broth, noodles, meat, and topped with cilantro and onions. One of my favorite things about Pho is how customizable it is. There are numerous combinations of meats to choose from, as well options given on the table. On the side, it is accompanied with a plate of jalapenos, limes, bean sprouts, and basil. Additionally, on the table there are chilies, Hoisin sauce, Sriracha, and soy sauce.

My favorite comination: A few basil leaves, a spoonfull of Sriracha sauce, a dash of Hoisen sauce, two full lime wedges, and a handful of bean sprouts.

At Vietopia, I ordered the vegetable Pho with the beef broth. The vegetables soaked in the broth making them soft and full of flavor.

I am very picky when it comes to Pho broths, but Vietopia’s was exquisite. Sometimes Pho places can make their broth too watery, too sweet, or too salty, but Vietopia’s was the perfect combination of rich and savory.

If you are not a fan of noodle soups, the other food options at Vietopia were just as incredible as the Pho. This Pork and Shrimp platter was to die for. The pork was grilled to perfection and the shrimp was excellently seasoned. Well done, Vietopia.

You can't go to a Vietnamese restaurant without ordering some Bubble Tea. Bubble tea has balls of tapioca on the bottom, and is topped with a cold, tea-based flavored drink. The two flavors I tried were Taro and Thai tea, and both were a must have.

If you have the time, definitely check out this incredible eatery. The prices are very affordable, as I payed less than 10 dollars for my entire meal.
