It’s that time of year: holiday parties, cookie swaps, hot chocolate, apple pies, and candy canes.

The holiday season does not make it easy to eat healthy, but there are many ways to stay food-conscious, even if you allow yourself to indulge every once in a while, (which you should!)
Allow Chews and Booze to let you in on some of favorite healthy holiday secrets….
1. Stay away from the appetizer table.
It’s easy to mindlessly dive in on your Aunt Carol’s delicious spinach and artichoke dip, but next thing you know you’ve eaten way more than you meant to, before dinner is even served!
2. Don’t drink your calories.
Hot chocolate, eggnog and other seasonal favorites will pack on calories that won’t fill you up. Have one of these indulgent drinks, but then switch to something more sensible.
3. Eat before you attend the office party.
Have your normal, well-balanced meal beforehand, then treat yourself to a couple cookies at the gathering.
4. Eat leftovers sitting down.
If you keep sneaking a few bites of leftover turkey or your gramma’s brownies you wont notice how much you ate and next thing you know you’ve had a meals worth of calories!
5. Choose when you indulge.
Stopping at the pretzel stand while present shopping at the mall isn’t worth it, but the pumpkin chocolate chip cookies served at Thanksgiving dinner that you’ve been dreaming about all year certainly is.
Remember, this is your time to enjoy yourself! Be smart, but also don’t be afraid to have a few naughty days
