I never knew what fried chicken was until…
A few weeks ago, a Chews and Booze team member and I visited Atlanta, Ga. for a public relations conference with other James Madison University students.
The days were long and filled with information but, we learned a lot. However, by the end of the day we could not wait to see where we would go for dinner.
On a walk back from a visit at the Georgia Aquarium, we spotted a sign that said Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken. Our minds instantly began to think the same things. World famous? Southern comfort food? Fried chicken? At the point, there was no ignoring it.
As we settled in, I ordered a Coca-Cola because its headquarters is located in Atlanta and an iced cold drink was just what I needed. I also ordered fried pickles as an appetizer with my group which were fried to perfection.

Then comes dinner, where I ordered 2 pieces of fried chicken and sides of macaroni and cheese and cole slaw. At that point, I could not wait to taste this southern food.
When dinner arrived, I received a chicken leg and breast, a slice of white bread, cole slaw, and macaroni and cheese. The fried chicken was the best I have ever tasted in my life and they served big pieces. I was unsure how I would like the breast at first because it was a lot of meat but it melted in your mouth and came off the bone with no effort.

I finished up this southern meal with a slice of coconut pie which was also excellent. It does not seem like you could go wrong with ordering anything off of this menu.

I dream of the fried chicken and cannot wait to have it again someday. If you ever see a Gus’s, I highly recommend you walk inside. Once you smell the fried chicken, you will not be able to turn around.
